The Mark Scott Foundation

Outward Bound Trust

The Mark Scott Foundation is a registered Scottish charity (SC 025254), inspired by the life of Mark Scott, a 16 year old schoolboy, who was murdered in 1995 in an unprovoked sectarian attack. The Foundation fulfils its mission exclusively through the unique Mark Scott Leadership for Life Award. The Award is designed specifically for young people in their final year of school, a key transitional period in their lives. By bringing together young people from different schools and backgrounds, the Award offers those taking part an opportunity to create new friendships, break down barriers and discover more about themselves. It also builds confidence, raises aspirations and enables young people to discover leadership potential, while engaging in a project of real value to their local community.

The Award is delivered in partnership with The Outward Bound Trust. So far, more than 1,600 young people have taken part in the Award programme which takes six months and encompasses outdoor learning activities, team planning and the delivery of a community project. Neither the young people, their families, or the schools are required to pay for the Award.  Each year The Mark Scott Foundation strives to raise sufficient funds for at least 150 young people to take part, at an average cost of £1,200 per Award participant.

The BlueSky Challenge is a vital part of funding for the Award.  The more sponsorship raised from individuals and teams, the more young people can benefit.
