The Prince’s Trust is a youth charity. It does not have a large bequest or huge reserves. We need to raise £400,000 every month in Scotland to continue helping disadvantaged young people overcome barriers and get their lives working. Scotland's generation of young jobless people costs the country at least £1.7bn each year. These young people need more choices and more chances to fulfil their ambitions, improve their skills and make a real contribution to their communities. The Prince’s Trust offers financial assistance, training, advice and support to disadvantaged young people, aged 14 - 25 who need such help. Last year 73% of all the young people we supported moved into employment, education or training. In 2008 we aim to support 4000 young people in Scotland across all of our programmes.
We focus on young people who have been in care, who have struggled at school, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. This involves developing their confidence, helping them gain qualifications, as well as combating the social exclusion and stigma experienced by many young people.
